Last Days of Parma Heights Branch Library(Photos)

Before a new library is built, I made a point to stop by the Parma Heights branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library on Pearl Road to capture some photos of this iconic building. Designed in the distinctive Googie style by architect John Lipaj, the library first opened its doors to the public on June 17, 1963. This past summer marked its 60th anniversary.

Interestingly, the building itself is owned by the city, not the library system. Its future remains uncertain, with ongoing discussions about potential repurposing. The futuristic design stands as a tribute to a bygone era when architecture was bold, imaginative, and forward-thinking—embracing elements like expansive windows, steel frames, abundant natural light, and bright colors.

I took over 100 photographs that day, but here are just a few for you to enjoy.
